NaBloPoMo Day 4: Autumn and Rum

It was a painful process for me to come around to autumn this year. I’m not joking when I say that I felt desperation about the summer slipping away. I think it’s because I had such an awful one last year recovering from a heart (and soul) wrenching break up. More than anything I wanted to soak up every warm, sunny, calm minute of this one.
Release The Kraken!

I did just that. Lots of beach days. Lots of long walks by the ocean. With the exception of a few bumps in the road, it was a truly great summer.

I don't know how, but I slowly came around to accepting the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. I guess I started thinking of how good it feels to come in from the cold, and how refreshing the dry, crisp air is this time of year. Probably what helped the most (shocker!) is remembering the food that comes with this season. All those yummy autumn greens and squashes. And honeycrisp apples from Sweet Berry Farm- a desert island food for me for sure. Oh, and warm, starchy dishes like risotto. And soup! I love soup almost as much as I love sandwiches.

And, of course I thought of the drinks that come along with the change in season. During an early "winter" storm last weekend my thoughts turned to hot apple cider, which, duh, requires some rum. I came across this awesome new rum called The Kraken. It's a spiced, dark rum similar to Goslings. I have to admit, I bought this solely because I loved the packaging. Great graphics, right? (They have a great website too!) And I love the double handled bottle. It actually tastes great too - good enough for sipping over ice. But since autumn is in full swing, I'll be drinking mine with hot cider and gearing myself up for that dreaded season that follows this one.

More food (and hot drinks), less pain,
x-L
